My Pathway to Success and Being a Self Advocate
Jeremy Williams has a story to tell…
He is a young adult of 34 years, has been a Special Olympian and competed in eight sports for eighteen years and also at the 1995 World Games in gymnastics.
He has worked at Kroger for nine years and is a fourth degree Knight of Columbus.
He served three years on the National Down Syndrome Congress Board of Directors and is on the Self Advocate Council.
He loves to travel, to work out in the gym and be at the beach.
And also Showing the Documentary Monica and David.
HBO Documentary Films: Monica & David
MONICA & DAVID explores the marriage of two adults with Down syndrome and the family who strives to support their needs. Monica and David are blissfully in love and want what other adults have—an independent life.
Full of humor, romance and everyday family drama, the film uses intimate fly-on-the wall footage to reveal the complexity of their story. While Monica and David are capable beyond expectations, their parents, aware of mainstream rejection of adults with intellectual disabilities, have trouble letting go.
The event will be at First United Methodist Church of Myrtle Beach at the North Campus on 65th Avenue.
Dinner will be served and Childcare will be available.

Annual Christmas Party
Mark your calendars for Sunday, December 11th, as the date of our annual Christmas Party!
The party will be held from 2 until 6pm, at the First United Methodist Church of Myrtle Beach, north campus, on 62nd Avenue. You also may know this as the old YMCA.
There will be fun, games, new friends to meet and old friends to catch up with. As always, good food, and of course, a visit from Santa Claus!
Dinner will be provided, we ask that everyone bring a sweet to share!

Annual “It’s Almost Summertime” Picnic
Annual “It’s Almost Summertime” Picnic & A Day at the Waccatee Zoo
Saturday, May 14th, 2011
11am until 3 pm
Waccatee Zoo
Free to members of GSDSS.
$3.50 for others.
Lunch provided.
If you aren’t sure you can come, and won’t know until Friday or the day of the picnic, YOU ARE WELCOME! We always plan for a few extra…….as the saying goes…the more the merrier!!
Weather – The forecast calls for scattered thunderstorms. We are hoping the weather will hold out so we can have a fun day. But……..in case, I will send out an email that morning if we have to postpone the event. Rain date would be the next Saturday, May 21st. If you have any question about the weather Saturday, please call me, Sharon, at (843)240-1214.
The picnic is planned from 11-3. We are planning to eat about 12:30, that will give plenty of time to see the animals, and also have time to eat, socialize, etc.
